“ Although rated as a three stars this place should definitely be four star instead. Everything was clean, modern, new, shiny, working and we had no problems at all with our stay. The Hotel Szczecin Focus is very close to the old town centre and all the main tourist sites so it was easy to just walk around, once we found our bearings. I think the best thing to do is go to the Dukes Castle as there’s a tourist office there where you can get hold of some free maps and leaflets which you can take to the cafe that is also there, and plan what you’re going to do over a coffee and pastry! ”

Szczecin

The historic city of Szczecin has just over 400,000 inhabitants and is located on the Baltic coast of Poland. It was formerly known as Stetin and has been variously ruled by the Dukes of Pomerania, Denmark, Sweden, Prussia and Poland. More recently it is renowned as one of the birth places of Solidarity.

The city’s layout was designed in the latter part of the 19th century by Haussmann – who also famously laid out the city plan for Paris – resulting in many fine boulevards and squares. The city is divided into the Lewobrzeze (Left Bank) and Prawobrzeze (Right Bank) regions, separated by the rivers Oder and Regalica with the port sitting between them. The old town in the heart of Szczecin nearby the Hotel Szczecin Focus has recently undergone significant restoration and has improved the ambiance of the city centre with new shops, restaurants and cafes.

The main sites to visit in the city include the Pomeranian Dukes Castle which houses a Tourist Information Office, museum and cafe and is well worth a visit. The old town and in particular Waly Chrobrego street are enjoyable to stroll around and enjoy a little people watching in one of the many cafes. For some peace and quiet you can visit the Kasprowicza and Zeromskiego parks, or stretch your legs on a hike or cycle ride up to Emerald Lake and Puszcza Bukowa for beautiful views of the city. You can also take a boat trip or hire a canoe to explore the many canals and waterways surrounding the port. The Hotel Szczecin Focus is perfectly located close to the old town and main visitor attractions.

One of the most popular trips you can make from the Hotel Szczecin Focus is to Wolin Island, which contains the Wolinski National Park, the charming medieval towns of Wolin and Lubin, Kawcza Gora Mountain and the seaside resorts of Swinoujscie, Dziwnow and Miedzyzdroje. Further along the coast are the evjoyable coastal towns of Kamien Pomorski and Kolobrzeg.
